How it runs

Perplexity is a stdio MCP server. mcpfold launches it with:

npx -y server-perplexity-ask

Add to your config

mcpfold add server-perplexity-ask

Needs a token — mcpfold stores it as a reference (${env:PERPLEXITY_API_KEY}), never a value.
